ENTREPRENUERSHIP

Snapple started in 1972 in East Meadow, Long Island, New York. It was created by Leonard Marsh, Arnold Greenburg, and Hymen Golden. Their original intent was to create delicious fruit drinks that were all natural that they could sell to health food stores. At this point, their business was called Unadulterated Food Products. Greenburg ran his own health food store in East Village of Manhattan. The other founders were not sure of how much success their drinks would have so they continued working at a window washing company.
One of the first juices they made was an apple juice. They soon combined the words “snappy” and “apple” and created Snapple. They changed their name to the Snapple Beverage Company in the 1980’s. At this point in time their company only had a few juices to sell. It wasn’t until the late 1980’s when the company would introduce their first iced tea. They have since added several different drinks and flavors to their list of products. They have over 70 different flavors (http://www.snapple.com/history).
While Snapple has been a very successful company, some people have doubts about what the drinks are actually made of. There was a 2009 lawsuit brought against Snapple from a consumer. The lawsuit stated that the Snapple drinks contained unhealthy ingredients and the labels on the drinks were very misleading. Another lawsuit in 2010 questioned whether certain ingredients could be classified as “natural”. There was also another lawsuit against Snapple that claimed the labels said they had natural ingredients. People complained that that the company uses high fructose corn syrup. This lawsuit was dismissed later because the consumer did not have any evidence for how it hurt them (http://www.foodnavigator-usa.com/Regulation/Snapple-beats-all-natural-lawsuit).
Some of Snapples popularity has come due to the TV and sponsored events. In recent years Snapple has been the official beverage sponsor of America's Got Talent. It has since made appearances in several TV episodes, including 30 Rock and Seinfeld.
The Dr. Pepper Snapple Group is the owner of Snapple. They market several different types of drinks. In 2000 The Dr. Pepper Snapple Group acquired the Snapple Beverage Group. The Dr. Pepper Snapple Group became a publicly traded company on May 7, 2008 (http://www.drpeppersnapplegroup.com/company/operations/).
This was on the New York Stock Exchange. They have an enterprise value of about 19.47 billion dollars (https://ycharts.com/companies/DPS/enterprise_value).
